Are you a freecell or solitaire addict?  Or do you spend ages every day playing sudoku or doing crosswords? Freerice is a totally guilt-free alternative!

Freerice is a free-to-play online game where each correct answer results in a donation of rice through the UN World Food Program.

There is a range of subjects to choose from including English spelling or grammar, chemical symbols, human anatomy, language learning, basic maths, SAT preparation and geography, all with multiple choice answers.

The game automatically adjusts to your level - if you get the answers right the questions get harder and if you get them wrong they get easier. Every correct answer earns 10 grains of rice.

There are about 48 grains of rice in a gram and, in countries where rice is a staple part of the diet, the World Food Programme provides on average about 400 grams of rice per person per day.

As you play the game sponsors' advertising banners are shown at the bottom of the screen. The money generated by these banners is used to buy the rice. is owned by the UN World Food Program and is committed to the cause of ending hunger around the world.

It is run entirely for free and at no profit. There are over a million registered players who have raised enough rice to feed millions of people.

You can play as long as you like and donate as much rice as you want but, be warned - it's very addictive! Click on the banner below or here to play.
